If the individual is part of UW-Madison – Simply select the space you want to add them to, enter their name and select them from the list.

If the individual is external to UW-Madison – Simply select the space you want add them to, enter their email address and press Enter to invite them.

How do I personalize my Webex App?

Now that you’ve installed Webex, it’s time to set up the app. Customize your settings and preferences to get the best Webex experience.

How do I send a message in the Webex App?

Simply go to and choose Contact a Person to enter their email or name. Then, just type and send your message, and you’ve now just created a space just for the two of you. The next time you message them, you can just select their name from the list of your spaces.

How do I disable the auto-start for the Webex App?

By default, the Webex App sets up the application to start on login. To turn this feature off, please follow the instructions found on Webex Teams: Disabling Auto-Start Functionality.

This document will highlight the steps needed for installing Webex successfully on both Windows OS and Mac OS.

Note: If your computer is owned by UW-Madison, please contact your local IT support for help with installing Webex products. The software may be installed and used on personal machines, but should not be redistributed without permission.

Webex (Windows)
Compatibility: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and later
  1. Navigate to the Campus Software Library or Cisco Webex Teams site to acquire the Webex for Windows OS installation file
    1. Campus Software Library is a per-machine installer
    2. Cisco Webex site is a per-user installer
  2. Navigate to where the downloaded file was placed and double click the file
  3. Select 'Next'
    1. You will be prompted to enter administrator credentials after performing this step if you downloaded from the Campus Software Library
    2. Installation will occur after performing the above step
  4. After installation has occurred, select 'Finish'
  5. Depending on the installer used, next steps are as follows:
    1. Campus Software Library: The machine will now have Webex installed. This will not need to be repeated for other users of the computer
    2. Cisco Webex site: The current user will now have Webex installed. This will need to be repeated for other users of the computer
  1. Search for 'Webex' from the start menu and run the application
  2. Select 'Agree'
  3. If this is the first time Webex will be on the system, select 'Get Started'
  4. Enter in your primary email address and select 'Next'

  5. Enter in your NetID and password. Select 'Login'
  6. Webex will now be ready for you to use

Installation Instructions:
  1. Navigate to the Campus Software Library or Cisco Webex Teams site to acquire the Webex for Mac OS installation file
  2. Navigate to where the downloaded file was placed and double click the file
  3. A drive will appear on your desktop named 'Webex'. Double click the drive
  4. Drag 'Webex' into the 'Applications' folder
    1. You will be prompted to enter administrator credentials after performing this step
  5. The computer will now have Webex installed. This will not need to be repeated for other users of the machine
  1. Search for 'Webex' form the search bar and run the application.
    1. You may be prompted with a security prompt when launching this application for the first time. Select 'Open'
  2. If this is the first time Webex will be on the system, select 'Get Started'
  3. Enter in your primary email address and select 'Next'

  5. Webex will now be read for you to use
